Description: Ad Verbum is a wordplay-based work of interactive fiction, winner of the 2000 XYZZY Award for Best Puzzles. Ad Verbum also took 4th place of 53 entries in the Sixth Annual Interactive Fiction Competition, Oct 4-Nov 15, 2000, and was voted the favorite game of competition game authors themselves. Employing Oulipian techniques to constrain both the computer's generation of text and the acceptable input from the interactor, Ad Verbum brings a new literary tradition (or anti-tradition) to interactive fiction

Technical requirements: Web browser with Java. Any computer with a Z-machine interpreter can run the program locally. Note: There is a link from that page which allows you to download a local version, if you like, so you can SAVE and RESTORE and can interact without a network connection.

Start/Restart instructions:
In most cases typing 'RESTART' will restart Ad Verbum, but it is possible to maneuver into a space where that directive will not work. In this circumstance, use the alternate method of reloading the Web page to restart the ZPlet interpreter.
